What Is Advanced Segmentation?



Advanced segmentation is a new feature in Google Analytics that allows you to look at data for different market segments side by side. Previously, you had to create your reports to do this or look at segmentation data separately. This feature, however, should make your life a whole lot easier.

If you want to see what percentage of new visitors versus returning visitors convert to sales, you can do that through advanced segmentation. Or suppose you want to know how your organic search campaign is going compared to your paid search campaign. You can do that through advanced segmentation. What if you want to know which third-party sites are delivering more traffic that converts? Well, advanced segmentation can tell you that. And that’s the beauty of this analytics tool.

Google Analytics’ advanced segmentation feature will also allow you to create your own custom segments. Let’s say you want to divide your market according to specific demographics. If you want to see what percentage of your sales are made to the 18-28 year old market versus the 28-35 year old market and the 35-50 year old market then you can do that through advanced segmentation. Create your own segments and analyze the data according to what’s important to you.

Advanced segmentation gives you the ability to break down your data into categories that are right for your business. It’s a powerful tool that allows you to make intelligent pay per click marketing decisions based on particular market segments without affecting your entire market.
