The Google AdWords Blog announced a few days ago that it was introducing a new feature into the Google AdWords pay per click advertising Content Network. That new feature is interest-based advertising.
The feature is currently in beta (you can sign up to participate on the Google AdWords Blog) but plans are to roll the feature out publicly later this year. It looks like a great feature. Here’s how it will work (in a nutshell):
- Google AdWords drops a cookie onto your site visitor’s computer
- As the user browses other parts of the web they will be shown ads based on their interests
How does this translate into a benefit to you? Well, if you’re an advertiser you could increase your branding efforts by doing some advertising on the pay per click Content Network. Your site visitors will undoubtedly visit other parts of the web. When they do they’ll see your ads. If they are prone to clicking on ads then they’ll undoubtedly end up back on your website. And how many times does it take a person to see an offer before she acts on it?
