Good thoughts, Vitaliy. I do think there is a correlation between the complexity of your product and whether or not a microsite suits it for marketing.

@Kenneth

There are some important questions to ask yourself first --
How complex is your product?
 If you are just selling an ebook, you probably don't need more than a single page to tell someone what it is about.
How will you be driving traffic to the site?
 Having only a single page to index probably won't get you very far organically for the keywords you will be targeting. If you're going to be paying for traffic or promoting through affiliates or partners, a single page is one of the best ways to convert.
Are you tied to a brand?
 Chances are good that if a recognized brand is setting up a single landing page, traffic will find it. But if it's a completely unknown entity, how will you establish your web presence with only a single page?

I found a great article on this over at <a href="http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites" rel="nofollow">SEOmoz here</a>.

Good luck with your ventures and informative post Brick!

Warmest Regards,
